Favourite book?

What's the best book you've ever read? I'm looking for inspiration as to what to read next!

I like action/thriller books and my fave author is Brit turned American Lee Child. His hero is a tough guy ex military policeman called Jack Reacher who tries to his hardest to mind his own business but always gets dragged into scrapes. I think I've read all of them (on his latest now) but for me the best was one called "Die trying."

I also enjoyed "Rainbow Six" by Tom Clancey and "Fist of God" by Frederick Forsyth.

Oh yeah, I meant to add that my wife used to read romantic mush (Mills and Boon) all the time till one day she read the first few pages of my first Lee Child novel (The Persuader).

Even though I was about 70 pages into it she was hooked and begged me to let her read it first! She now reads action/thriller/detective books constantly.

I love Martina Coles' books. & James Patterson (i think that his name!), i like his books about detective Alex Cross.

My favourite book of all times is Bulgakov's Master and Margarita.

Hello Woo Woo, not knowing anything at all about you this is quite achallenge if not an impossibility. However, try Phillip Pullman's " His Dark Materials" trilogy. The first book is titled "Northern lights".Part sci fi and fantasy it is essentially a love story encompassing dark deeds, heroism, theology,cosmology and good old fashioned adventure.A real page turner. Very daring too in its philosophy. A ripping good yarn. If you read in bed I promise you that you'll be very short of sleep. Let me know how you get on? Now your'e going to tell me you've read it!

any thing by jodi picoult is brilliant especially my sisters keeper it has a bit of a twist at the end. the others by james herbet is aso great and a bit scary.

Vimto, I haven't read Northern Lights yet, but it is on my to-read list! Now that it's been reccommended I'll definately give it a go!

It's really difficult to pick just one "favourite book". Off the top of my head a tie between William Horwood's "Skallagrigg" (a description of which puts most people off, but it's a great book) and George R.R. Martin's currently ongoing fantasy saga "A Song of Ice and Fire".

One of the best iv'e read in the last few years is 'A Star Called Henry' by Roddy Doyle. Amazing book. Vimto's suggestion, 'His Dark Materials', another great read.

If you're into sci-fi even a bit try the Foundation series by Asimov.
