My mum who is in her 70s is off on her first holiday abroad with the girls in Feb!!!
She isnt a big reader of books, i dont think she has much patience !! she reads mainly mags and papers..but I want to get her an easy to read book while shes sunning herself!
I was thinking on the lines of Maeve Binchy, but not sure of the story lines of these..anybody got any other ideas??
Sorry to be so predictable, but what about Catherine Cookson books? If she'd prefer something more entertaining, maybe Bill Bryson's Notes from a small island, or The life and times of the Thunderbolt Kid. Both these books are REALLY funny and, I think, really interesting. Hope she enjoys her holiday
Thanks everyone....she is from the west of ireland karenmac60, someone suggested Anne Bennetts books.irish/english writer...not sure though, maybe a bit intense, short stories is a great idea....any suggestions!??!!!
I've been having a look for the memoir type thing, but everything looks really depressing!!! They all seem to be about abuse or the Troubles - I was thinking of something a little more light hearted :) Maeve Binchy has written quite a few volumes of short stories-
Central Line (1978)
Victoria Line (1980)
Dublin 4 (1981)
London Transports (1983)
Story Teller: Collection of Short Stories (1990)
Dublin People (1993)
Cross Lines (1996)
This Year It Will Be Different: And Other Stories (1996)
The Return Journey (1998)
