I would definitely recommend his books........but,no,it was more of a fishing expedition as i've just joined :-)

Sorry, I can't chat about these books ... because I've never heard of them.

But I've just Googled the author, and they do look interesting.

Is there any particular book that would be good to read first?

Heard of him, even have a couple of his books in the "to read" pile/mountain, but never actually read one.

Mme LeMarchand rates him, though.

You might like Neil Gaiman and China Mieville. Avoid "Fragile Things" by the former - it's quite nasty and not really indicative of his work. "Un Lun Dun" ("officially" a YA book) is a good place to start with the latter.

ANY of the Newford Chronicles series would be good to start with,they all contain a character called Jilly Coppercorn.

Haven't read him but I remember from my days as a bookseller that he had great covers.
