is it an American word puzzle?
Macmillan Dictionary: Gaol

▸ noun: a correctional institution used to detain persons who are in the lawful custody of the government (either accused persons awaiting trial or convicted persons serving a sentence)
▸ verb: lock up or confine, in or as in a jail

its countdown but could be american version got the app on android
Gaol is the older spelling, still used these days but disappearing from use. I think it's more "dead" in the US than the UK, so if it were a word puzzle based on a US dictionary you might find it disallowed.

If it's Countdown you should be able to do better than four letters... :P

My other half sent me a text, and it just said "gban"

I thought that was bang out of order.

I don't know if anyone has the countdown app it's very addictive but the 30 seconds you get to make a word out of 9 letters flies and you just don't have time to think of many. the numbers round is even worse
It's a very tough game really, don't worry about it.
It may be you were looking in an American dictioary. You need an English one.
Ah I see others have said as much.
