Photographs For Book Publication

I am planning on publishing an e-book shortly but it would be greatly enhanced by the use of photographs for each chapter (it is non-fiction).
Can photographs be used in e-book publication?
And how can I obtain these from the press without it costing me hundreds in fees?

you could google royalty-free photos or something similar
