From the author of ‘The Kite Runner’ and ‘A Thousand Splendid Suns’. As to be expected, beautifully written but I’m not finding it easy to follow. With a succession of separate stories about an assortment of people who are in some way connected it’s all rather disjointed. Nevertheless, as with his previous works, I’m hooked, and I’m sure it will all come together in the end.
Has anyone else read it, and if so, what do you think?
The Book Thief was very atmospheric, the film didn't disappoint either but rather added to what I'd imagined.
I'd forgotten about The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, someone loaned it to me just after my mum died and I couldn't even start it. Maybe I'll give it a go.
I've just downloaded A Little Life after seeing it in Waterstones, it got very good reviews, completely different from the other titles mentioned in this thread.
chiaroscuro, thank you for getting back to me. I have finished it now, but like viv, feel that he somehow missed out on what could have been a more in depth story. The concept was superb – if only he’d dispensed with much of the padding throughout the middle. He left me wanting to know more about the lives of some of the characters and less about others. However, despite that smidgeon of disappointment I will read whatever he writes in the future.
