Black Beetle Poem
1 Answers
My mother used to recite a poem which started. " In the garden one day I was playing, at bouncing my big rubber ball, when suddenly a black beetle came out of a hole in the wall."
and ends with " so now if you se a beetle, you will know who has polished his back"
It goes on for 4 or five verses but I can not recall many in the middle. Anyone heard of this ?

In the garden on day I was playing
At bouncing my big rubber ball.
When suddenly I saw a black beetle
Run out of the hole in the wall.
It’s back was all beautifully shiny
And it gleamed as it ran on its way.
Then suddenly I heard someone singing
A tune both merry and gay.
Oh beetles who man to be polished
Come and be polished by me
I looked to see who was singing
And there on the top of the wall
Was a dear little queer little pixie
With duster and polish and all.
He rubbed bs he scrubbed at the beetles
Until they were all glistening black.
So now when you see one a gleaming
You know who has polished his back.
