Antonio Gaudi

....... and here it is .........

strictly speaking, Antoni Gaudi - the Catalan spelling, I think.

He was born Antoni Placid Guillem Gaudi Cornet in Reus, Catalonia, in 1852. He was a fifth child, of Nordic appearance (blond, blue eyes), a flashy dresser, very bad tempered and never married. He is frequently referred to as Antonio Gaudi. The Sagrada Familie is now on Unesco's World Heritage List. Gaudi is the essence of "dreaming and building" and here is a detail, and another, showing something of this. He died in Barcelona in 1966.

Sorry, typo, he died in 1926 at the age of 74 (after being hit by a tram whilst crossing a street).
he is often called Antonio, but he was a passionate Catalan nationalist, which is why I think the Catalan spelling is more appropriate than the Spanish one. He wasn't recognised after the accident and was going to have a pauper's funeral until the peseta dropped.
