Nov 11th is coming soon. Today i saw a man selling poppies stop a young lady and asked if he could re position her poppy. While doing so, he told that lady she should wear the poppy on the left hand side. The red represents the blood of all those who gave their lives. The black represents the mourning of those who didn't have their loved ones return home. And the green leaf should be positioned at 11 o'clock to represent the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, the time that world war one formally ended. He was worried that younger generations wouldn't understand this and his generation wouldn't be around for much longer to teach them.

I don't assume everyone has ill intent. An old man approaches a young woman to replace her poppy which would entail touching her in the breast area.... Not appropriate and I don't think these days anyone would dare do that. That's if it really happened of course.

AL - the man ASKED if he could re-position her poppy; hardly grabbing it uninvited.
I must say, as a 70+year old, I've never come across the relevance of the poppy, other than the Flanders fields connection.

I'm tired reading about poppys on AB. We wear them because we want to/or not. I doubt anyone wearing a poppy does not know why .!!

I seem to recall a newsreader censored a year or two back for not wearing his poppy according to established practice.
Do the RBL still supply pins with paper poppies these days. I always buy two enamel pin badges with captive caps.
Did I dream H&S gave a no no to loose pins?

'from the Internets' makes no sense. Starting a post with "Today I saw a man" suggests it was in fact, you who saw the man. Quotation marks often are useful in this case.

Retrocop yes they still give out pins. I got one last week and was asked if I wanted a pip. I got a nice enameled one for my son as he collects them.

This load of old pony surfaces every year ... I can only quote from the Royal British Legion :

Crikey it's off already I see today. Can't we have one day, just one flaming, day where people are not picked on for innocuous posts? Where is the harm in this post? It's quite clear it was internet derived, so why the flipping drama all the time? Touch your breast? Innapropriate? It said he ASKED. Jesus Christ, whatever next? And it doesn't matter if it's true or not it just a harmless post.
