Just to let you know that I eventually managed to find out more about the artist. His full name was George Cecil Bottomley and he was born in Tunbridge Wells in 1894. His family was from Bradford and they moved back to Bradford a few years later. George exhibited several painting at the Cartwright Hall (Bradford Art Gallery). He died in 1972.

Wendy - in trying to find out more all I came up with was the question you posted to the local historical society - which is what I was going to suggest you do! This article may be able to point you in the right direction: article 3423

WendyW, I'm pleased you made progress with this artist. I too am curious about him. I live in Bradford and have a lovely watercolour picture of his showing Kilnsey Crag in the Dales. Cartwright Art Gallery & the archivist there appear to have kept no record of him. What is your interest in him? Do you have any of his pictures?
I have a photograph of GCB at Shipley School of Art and Bradford College of Art with fellow students, Fred C Jones, Hermon J Cawthra. GCB was a close friend of James Hardacre, a Bingley artist.
I have a watercolour by GCB as well as many other Yorkshire artists including my grandfather, Walter C Foster, whose prints are now on display in Salts Mill in Saltaire (first floor).
Does anyone have pictures by Walter C Foster?
