I'm overstating my feelings, but I do find them pretty awful. I don't understand the appeal of caterwauling cats, and 'saucy Jacks', and phantoms of the opera; all got laboured plots and casts of people who can't sing, dance or act very well.
Sorry everyone! :-)

I've been to a West End musical ...it didn't change my mind.

Everyone runs around in a ridiculous fashion and when someone speaks they all look at that person mouths agog like the person has just solved world poverty.
I love some of the music, but people breaking out into song in a the middle of speaking drives me mad and apart from the main songs that become popular all the other singing usually dire. Hence why I can't stand Elaine Page on Sunday. She plays a lot of the dire music.
I love musicals too, especially, like others here, West Side Story. I just wish they would stop messing around with the lyrics and casting when making them into films because of political correctness. I first saw WSS on the stage and it was wonderful, a world away from the previous musicals but then they changed some of the words for the film and made it sound ridiculous.
dr Sloan in Mary Poppins now your talking musicalllls
Atheist,if you ever get the chance to listen /see

Made me giggle
My then boyfriend took me to see Les Mis for my 20th birthday. Once I found out what we doing I thought it was an awful idea and was convinced I would hate it (I had no idea what it was about).

I was blown away and cried so much I ended up with a migraine. The migraines faded, but I now love certain musicals. That was 30 years ago and I will always love Les Mis.
I love musicals and it's something Mum and I share, ballet too. I listen to some of the soundtracks over and over too, especially West Side Story and Les Mis.

I've loved musicals from very young. I did dance, drama and sang from an early age so that probably contributed too.
Watched Phantom of the Opera as part of the lockdown shows. Just blown away by the whole thing.
Jesus Christ Superstar about fifty years ago, Joseph 2019, Rocky Horror Show seven times, Blood Brothers about a dozen times....just a few that I’ve really enjoyed.
Love those too, Jake. Blood Brothers! Can’t see that too many times.
Superstar was my first London show. Can’t believe it was so long ago but I fell in love with musicals then.

You can’t say why not just sing and have a concert. It’s the whole stunning spectacle that is breathtaking.
I like West Side Story ( because I could associate with it to a degree ), also liked Grease.

Watched Phantom of the Opera///

Ach Jesus with half of his face covered up how could I understand LOL. Can hardly understand with the whole face uncovered LOL

Just before Covid - the Lyric in Belfast were advertising many musicals and the great thing (some of them only) were being subtitled on a wall. I would have loved that but it never happened.
were being subtitled on a wall. I would have loved that but it never happened.

Maybe after the covid thing, jj ( don't give up hope ).
I can think of a few musicals you’d like, Tony. Little Shop of Horrors is one. If you can ever see it live do.
Yes I know there’s a great motorbike scene ...but you’d like it.
What a coincidence. At 2105, I mentioned "The Music Man", and it's going to be on TV later this evening...Guess what I'll be watching.
don't give up hope - where's hope - for me it's right down in the underground in New York LOL and nowhere to be seen LOL
Thanks gness, will have to look out for that.

jj, there is always hope in Northern Ireland.
Can't stand them, either, though i have to admit absolutely loving the film version of JC Superstar with Yvonne Elliman and Ted Neeley. Still got the album. Radio 2 have been playing songs from musicals through Friday and Saturday and Elaine Paige is revealing the nation's fav musical number tomorrow. Sure there's a few blades of grass in the garden that need watching over :-/
