I Hate Musicals

I'm overstating my feelings, but I do find them pretty awful. I don't understand the appeal of caterwauling cats, and 'saucy Jacks', and phantoms of the opera; all got laboured plots and casts of people who can't sing, dance or act very well.

I love some musicals - Chicago, Les Miserables, The Producers and Billy Elliot to name a few. Didn't like Avenue Q, Phantom of the Opera or Cats. Tastes vary.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers holds a place in my heart, it was one of my mom's favourite musicals along with South Pacific.

I like musicals generally but Cats was boringly tedious, Jesus Christ Superstar was downright miserable, and Les Mis left me with not a single memorable tune. Joseph, Rocky Horror, West Side Story, Chicago, Phantom, Godspell, …. bring ‘em on!

Maggie, Avenue Q is one of my favourites. Perfect combination of humour and some stonking tunes, having said that I can see why it might be a love or hate show.

Each to their own. I have enjoyed the ones I have been invited to see.

From the few songs I have heard, I can't see the appeal of Hamilton though. The fawning reaction seems overstated.

Trevor, I was a Hamilton sceptic too, until I watched it on Disney+. I thought it was absolutely fantastic. Worth watching for Jonathan Groff's George III alone.
