I think it was on BBC 4. If you did do you think it has stood the test of time?

Didn't know it was on Sandy but I'm always a bit wary of re-watching a series that I loved as I'm scared it will shatter the illusion I carry with me. Did you enjoy it?
No, I didn't...but if it's lasted nearly 2000 years, what's another 50?

Maggiebee,
No I didn't see it.
I've recorded it, probably binge it when it's all done.

I remember it quite well, John Hurt as Caligula was wonderful.

I forget the name of the actor who played Tiberius. He was another monster.
George Baker.

That's him. Played Wexford later. I think
Remember Siân Phillips playing Livia. That woman was evil.
Thanks for the heads up, I am just going to start watching on iplayer. I loved it the first time round.
I liked "I CLAVDIVS" when it was on years ago. I can't imagine it's dated much, after all, it was already set in ancient times.
Last time I saw it repeated the rude bits weren't as rude as I remembered them ie, fewer naughty bits shown.
It was dated in as much as the actors were soooo much younger, and the set was fairly basic. But the star studded cast were as good as I remembered.
eek that is recent
does anyone remember the black and white one - Freddie Jones as Claudius, cyril someone thin gaunt man, as Augustus
sixties
oops the caesars
roland culver as Augustus
freddie J as claudius
PP - I remember Freddie Jones well - brilliant. Google says Brian Blessed played Augustus in the 60s version but he's hardly gaunt and thin. Can't think who it might be.
Thanks PP - Roland Culver of course.
the opening scene I THINK
was Freddie ( or er Claudius) offering Augustus a coin
and Augustus points out that he is obliged to beg for a day but the time is over....
god it was 55 y ago

Watching that all those years ago directed me to Robert Graves' book, Goodbye to all that.
He was an officer in a Welch Regiment, badly wounded his CO wrote to his family saying how sad he was to have to bring them news of their son's death.
He survived, married twice, and went on to father ten children.
He had a house in Majorca where he lived a sort of a hippy life for many years.
I can only find three episodes on Iplayer, is that all there is? He has just got married to that really tall woman.
