According to one account he was apprenticed to a butcher because of reverses in his father's financial situation.

If Shakespeare served any apprenticeship it would most likely be with his father and his line of trade. John Shakespeare dealt in fleeces, leathers and as a by-product of this made gloves and sold meat.


However no record of such an apprenticeship exists so we have to make an assumption. With alot of Shakespeare's life, historians have to piece together a biography from fragments of evidence and presume the rest to plug the gaps.
