Album art work on my iPod

I've just spent hours copying and pasting album covers for all my music on iTunes only to find that none of the pictures are showing up on my iPod. I've checked the little box in the preferences drop down menu where it says "allow album art work on your iPod" but the only art work that shows up is from the songs I've downloaded off iTunes, not the stuff I've imported from my own CD collection. Help! How do I get it to work?

Instead of copying and pasting you actually have to save the pictures to your computer.
