French 'thank you' note
2 Answers
Would some kind Francophone write a short 'thank you' note for me to copy and send to the parents of a Parisienne friend we visited in Paris recently. My wife and I are learning French but are still at the 'John and Jill have a red ball' stage...
Here's what we want to say: 'Dear Mr. and Mrs Delorme, we are writing to thank you for entertaining us to an excellent dinner in your lovely home. We very much enjoyed spending the evening with you. Thanks to Claire, we had a wonderful holiday in Paris, you must be very proud of having such a daughter. We hope to see you again on our next visit, when I promise you our French will have improved! Thank you again, and very best wishes from..............'
Bit of a cheek hoping to get a free translation job, I know, but next year I may be able to do such things for others. Thanks in advance, G

My French is passable at best but this looks pretty good to me. Babel Fish is probably worth bookmarking in your circumstances - especially if they reply but spending time with French-speaking people is the best way to hone your abilities.
Good luck.

Bonsoir Dusky - many thanks for your help, I didn't resort to Babelfish in the first instance because the last letter I wrote to Paris, a year or more ago, using their service, was apparently the cause of much innocent amusement in the Delorme household - I tried to write quite a complex message back then and perhaps the service wasn't up to it. Came out a bit garbled, it seems. I quite agree though, this translation looks the business, doesn't it? I shall send it as it stands therefore, and I thank you again for your (very prompt) attention to my question...Greenrook
