how do you find out if your painting is worth money?

If its one of your own ,then try sell it for what you would think you would get for it at an amateur exhibition .many galleries have them or if its by someone else, an auction house can advise..Some amateur painters who do sell their own work -work out how many man hours it took then add them together then come up with an hourly rate of say �10 or more then times it by that.
