What's the conventional term used to say "I've cropped the image of this painting, but only slightly"?
Here's an example:
1) The Mona Lisa
2) The Mona Lisa (detail)
3) ...but how do I describe this kind of cut?
I can think of ways to say it, but my question is What would be the conventional term used in the art world. How would they phrase it in a catalogue from an exhibition.
Thanks!

It isn't huge, basically down a flight of steps to a big crypt under a church with bones heaped up into a sort of igloo in each corner, plus more ornamental decorations on the walls and a fancy chandelier. With my artistic soul, I should quite like to be made into a chandelier when I am gone, but jno jnr may not feel up to hoovering it every day.
In other good news, I also saw the world's only cubist lamp post

Strange how things appear different on the tele ..I had the impression it was a huge great place . Mind you with Dan whirling around the mind can boggle .
Well it's turned rather cool here and I have ditched my Tshirt for a jumper ! Was that our summer that flashed by at the weekend ? I hope not ..another summer like last year and I will be even more grumpy than I usually am .

Evening, mortals. Forgot to tell you we did epitaphs while you were gone jno, I was gonna ask you what's yours but a chandelier beats all. Did you by any chance - and you too Shaney - happen to watch Six Feet Under? You will both like the setting... (a funeral home) ...but apart from that it's also one of the best television dramas ever produced.
I did too bring your list Robinia but your handwriting is deteriorating (and also I may have spilled some mineral water on it) so I couldn't quite make it out. I did my very best though to read what it said, and i got you this (Seriously, I've been trying for all this time to understand what custard is, I don't think we've got exactly the same thing but it's similar to vanilla sauce is it? Only thicker?)
Good info Vinny, there's an organic veggie food in my neighbourhood, I'll print your hemp oil article and try to convince them. Actually I bought a hemp paste spread there last year but it tasted like sh1t pardon my French and not even the store keeper himself could eat it, he said, without mixing it with other nut paste. Think I'll do better with the oil, just a few drops here and there.
Seems like only yesterday you shampooed your carpets Neti, there were bubbles all over the biddies, remember... oh all right go ahead - will your cats love it or hate it?
it's all too beautiful

Hi everyone Hope you are all ok. Welcome back Jno looking forward to seeing some of your photos.
Thanks Vinny for Jimmy Page. I think he's learnt a few more chords since those days.
Well I couldn't stand the very hot days I was as red as a beetroot. Well that's not totally true because I love the Summer but I do have to sit in the shade. Went down to Trent Lock for lunch on Sunday with Tbag then went for a walk down Elvaston Castle where I got even redder and sweltered.
Been to Ikea today after I said I would never go again and I bought 2 chairs but they have to be assembled and I have no skills at that whatsoever. So I have asked my son if he will do it for me but he hasn't text me back yet. They are in the boxes propped up against the kitchen wall and none-one knows for how long
Loved the blackbird photos Shaney I'm still trying to get them to come into my garden like I used to. I don't know what is putting them off. I have a feeder and birdbath but not having much luck. Somebody round about must be looking after them better than me.
That's about it for now. I shall be back soon.
Bye Neti, Shaney, Robinia, Vinny, Jno. Woofy, Kit and Dolly

what, what, has anyone been throwing houses around here, and me not noticing a thing - asleep infront of the telly as usual, the only thing that changes are the films they're showing while I'm sleeping, ha ha, this time it was Wag The Dog. I'd really like to see it one day you know!
Thank you Neti, that was most clarifying. You do know you're in trouble with headmistress now don't you.
Ha ha Jude, I've been given to understand that childbirth and shopping at IKEA have one thing in common: You say you're never gonna do it again - and then you do it again. Try assembling them yourself, it's often ...possible.
It's getting harder and harder Vinny to find my own music in my mail box, it's stuffed copies of songs you've posted on the biddy threads... but here's one I like Lou.

a'noon lovelies....yes, even you neti & Vinny....
my body lotion
Not a bad day now it's warmed up a bit...Jude you need to put out dried fruit & apples cut in half if you want to attract the blackbirds...they go through them at top speed & they love the big fat sundried raisins. (I'll put a sign in my garden directing them to Jude's & that'll save me having to buy so many)
You take all this foody stuff very seriously don't you? what's up with a splash of co-op sunflower oil?... or a good lump of lard, that's what you need. Have you noticed the price rises! Ye gads, I'll have to start growing my own custards next (they're yummy NOT yukky!!!)...I'll start with the seed that you gave me Kit...t'will not be long before I have a tart empire.
oooh nearly cut your plug off there kit I thought that perfect day was gonna be that awful multi-personality version....aaaaggghhh!!! it was a charidee thing & I can't stand it....please play (if you must) when I'm far away

Hi Vinny talking to yourself are you, old man ;-) <kit google's frantically for "tesco opens in sweden">
Ha ha ha, can't stop laughing, I hate that version too, Robinia! For a long while it was the only version available on YouTube but I still wasn't able to watch it! I've never seen all of it, can't stand it! you're gonna love this one
But oils is serious business, Robinia! If you ever come across a bottle of tarpa walnut oil, get it, guard it with your life - it's heavenly, with raisins and banana slices on yoghurt for instance, and a few of the Tarpa walnuts for good measure. <"lard" my ass, that woman is a plebeian>
Had a long email from my half-sister in Singapore today and then we spoke on the phone. She had been to the annual SWEA spring party at the Shangri-La Hotel... SWEA is the Swedish Women's Educational Association; they arrange lunches, outings and lectures, the latter ones along the lines of "how to make life better for your maid". Er... we don't lead the same sort of life my Singapore sister and I!
So did you get your wig straightened yesterday Shaney? wooooow! you sure did!
