Two Caravans

Having read 'A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian' and thoroughly enjoying it, am now reading 'Two Caravans', if anyone else has read this, is the Mr Mayevskyj in the nursing home the same man as the Mr Mayevskyj who is the father in Tractors? Bearing in mind that I can't remember how Tractors ended, how did the character get from one situation to the other?

Yes he is the same but I can't remember how the 1st book ended either. Sorry can't help further
