oops. 'My list is:' should have gone above the list! Don't know what happened there...
pink underrated? my list: Longwave, Beth Orton, Tom McRae, Goldrush, Elbow, Idlewild, The Bluetones, Longview.
Well, reading alot of punk history books, I don't think the Stranglers get enough credit. Also (don't laugh) Spandau Ballet - brought dance music crossed with pop/rock ((e.g. Chant No. 1)to teh charts a long time before Madchester crap like the Happy Roses or whatever tehy were called.
Obviously one of the most under-rated groups of all time were the Dooleys. They were a great pop act who could perform live (that is singing and playing their instruments, unlike many of todays so-called pop bands). They had worked for 7 years on the club circuit, winning awards and doing a ground-breaking tour of Russia and Eastern Europe, before having hit records in 1977.
Tell me this, dooleyfan, I always thought they were Mancs but I later read they were from Herts. or somewhere.

and what a result! you only commented on one of mine, Scarlets! PS: Just curious, are you a boy or a girl?
idlewild are awesome and criminally underrated, as are the killers
Scarlets: Elbow are probably the most boring and unquestioanbly the ugliest group of all time - oh, and they're Mancs - quelle surprise! I f****** hate REM as well - American b******!
The mighty Blue Oyster Cult. Sadly known only as one hit wonders over here, but in reality some 14 albums of inteliigent, melodic, dark, lyrical impossible to pigeonhole rock music all with the aid of THE most underrated guitarist ever, step forward Mr Donald 'Buck Dharma' Roeser. Oh yeah! and they are brilliant live too! ps: Elbow are not 'Mancs', they're from Bury!
Ween! The best band you've never heard!
Question Author
Yes, The Killers, good one. Are they underrated though? Aren't they quite highly rated in all the right circles?
georgeit79 i am a male. thanks for asking. Cruthinboy - so sorry to hear you don't liem elbow. makes it easier for me to get tickets though. Don't see where they come from as being relevant.
Re. Elbow, Scarlets, I saw them on a local free channel ChannelM about 2 years ago and thought "what a bunch of boring nohopers": turns out they're top festival turns, multi-platinum sellers -so what do I know! They are a bit lacking in charisma though, you must admit.
i dont consider the stranglers a punk band,they were much to good.they could actually play music?anyway most of them were born in the sixties.
finally someone eles has heard of thicke lol!!!! hes great,very soulfull!!! people i think are underated would be basement jaxx khia lina luther vandross beautiful south The roots shivaree ty god theres so much i cant think lol while we are on the subject..can i just say i think beyonce(even tho im one of destinys childs biggest fans),jamelia and dio are just so over rated!!!!i saved up my school money for beyonces album the day it came out and i was sooo disapointed!!!!!and dont get me started on the other two lol
Vinnie100 Actually none of The Stranglers were born in the 60's. The are all much older than that (Jet Black is pushing 70!!) the rest were born in the 50's
DrWu - Hugh must just have scraped into the 50s - he was in his late 20s in '77.
dio=dido btw lol
