Does anyone know the correct pronunciation of the name 'Vonnegut', as in the writer Kurt Vonnegut i.e. von-goot, von-e-gut, von-gut etc.?

All the English say vonnie- gut

but we say Parris and not parree and so on

In his autobiography he refers to the family name being mispronounced in the US as 'funny-gut'. The German 'V' is pronounced as 'F' in English, so 'fonnaygoot' would be about it.
