Sick Joke?
45 Answers
So, was it all a sick joke then? A blind man asks for help for people to read his favourite books onto tape or CD and to come onto AB and say they will and after the initial contact, disappear without any reason why! I am that blind man and though I have had to say a sad sorry to one reader, I have two brill people doing their best and one who had a cold and was waiting till they got better...but even that person has not been in contact since. So what have I done wrong? Not mentioned how much money it would cost?...I will pay if it has to come down to that, but civility would at least demand some kind of response, even if it was 'no, I made a mistake'. Just think about something you love so much but cannot have, but there is a chance if you just asked and that is what I did and the minority speaks louder than the majority, the majority of those who said they would be interested. This sounds bitter, for which I am very sorry, but the facts speak for themselves. Thank You and Goodnight...Ta Muchly.

Thanks Barmaid.
I also volunteered, woodelf.
However, you were quite specific about the books you were after, and others seem to have volunteered for those..........
I'm sure those of us who did make contact wouldn't have expected any sort of reimbursement; perhaps, like me, others thought that the ubiquitous 'someone else' was taking care of your requests ?

Thanks for being honest B00 and Sher. Jack, I have replied to you and if you're still okay with it then you will be fine and dandy, so send me back a mail on [email protected] have a need for you.
OK...Woodelf? I've spoken to Mr Boo, and he said he'd like to help. So if are desperate we'll both do it for you, him read some parts and me the others. Possibly a chapter each or something?
my email address is [email protected]
Like I've previously said, im not the best reader outter, i tend to speed read, but I'll do my best if you really are desperate on this one.
I promise you, that if you want to take me up on the offer and for whatever reason I can't do it (though can't see one) I'll let you know as immediately and not leave you hanging on.

Sorry woodelf, I know I offered to tape some books for you, I have tried to download and set up a recorder for my computer, but it isn't very successful! I'm not very good with computers, and my other half, who is good has been away for some weeks now because of work commitments. I don't have lots of spare time really, but have tried to sort it out! The thing that made me unsure was that you asked for a demo tape, and that you asked me to try to change my voice according to the character, sorry, but this is not what I expected! I thought you just wanted me to read the book!...................Sorry! It's not about payment!...............just not worked out!.........Hope you find someone with the time and technology needed!.............
Woodelf, I am the one with the cold. I am sorry that I have not been in touch, but as I haven't recovered sufficiently (I can't shake a hellish cough - not conducive to reading aloud) I didn't see much point in emailing to say I still haven't done it and I don't know when I will be able to. I apologise profusely for this, but given that I am planning on giving up a lot of my time in order to do this for you, I think you could have emailed me personally. I will be in touch when I am able to start the reading - in the meantime please do not take my silence as rudeness, I thought I had explained the situation sufficiently.
B00, you are very brave putting your email out there - and I know hwat brave is - I will get in touch. Hello mrs.chappie! Many Thanks to the others who have been so honest with their answers....those who were before are very conspicuous with their silence - but what the hell does it matter, it's only a book or two - but when it's something you love and can't get any more...then the pain is even more so!
Karen, I sincerely and humbly apologise for including you in 'the mix' and with hindsight I should have asked how you were...there you are ABers, see what a monster rears...but within so many disasters one flickering light gets overlooked sometimes but when the dust settles and that one light is still there...then I should have known, so please forgive me Karen.
