DAS

I was given DAS to play with as a child, and have recently been asked to source this Air Drying Clay for an elderly relative who has had her wood carving tools taken away, just for safety reasons, but wants to keep sculpting.
I've sourced it online but that got me wondering where it is manufactured and how long it has been around.
There's nothing on Wiki about it that I can find.

Das has been around for a long time, and mostly seems to be sold in packs of 1Kg or 485g. If you Google DAS modelling clay (I restricted teh search to the UK) you'll find plenty of links to sources ... Amazon is one

DAS or DAS Pronto is the trade name of a mineral-based polymer clay currently produced by Italian company FILA.

DAS is an acronym of the name of its inventor, Dario Sala (a poet, author and songwriter), who patented it in 1962. He essentially gifted the patent (i.e. for very little money) to Adica Pongo, an Italian company renowned throughout the 1960s, 70s & 80s for the manufacturer of educational toys. Adica Pongo was taken over by FILA in 1994.

Originally a powder to be mixed with water, it was not until 1968 that it became "ready to use" as a self-hardening material and sold vacuum-packed.
