late 1980's or early 90's tv show

trying to find name of late 1980's early 90's tv series that was on either bbc 2 or channel 4. it used to show in the evenings..... think it must have been an american import show. it featured a kind of elvis type male lead character (maybe called the dude?) & his rival was an evil zorro type lady, she wore a lot of black most of the time & possibly an eye patch or eye mask (who i think might have been a private detective). it was set in the desert, somewhere like new mexico & had a lot of 1950's styling in it......lot of 1950's cars etc. it was sort of a comedy/spoof of 1930's & 50's shows (wronged lead character on the run from evil henchmen type thing)
not much to go on i know........ if i can remember anymore details i'll post them but if any of this rings a bell please let me know ;)
