Hubris In A Hat...
27 Answers
I live in a part of the city where there are a lot of houses rented out to students. Out walking yesterday, wearing my new titfer, I saw a group of young women, who'll soon be making up part of this years student intake, leaving one of them. As I passed I heard a loud whisper: 'Freddie Krueger.'
I may have the hat but where do I find the necessary aplomb to carry off wearing it?

Wear your hat with pride. I have a small collection of not very distinguishe d hats and take great delight when I see one of my old mates cringe when they spot me.

Gro some stubble, wear some shades and tilt it to one side, job done.

You could take a lesson from the folks here in the western U.S. where wearing a hat (Cowboy, of course) is a way of life. There's a lot one learns from wearing such a hat... never taking it off to enter a restaurant... usually only being removed for church or other more solemn occasion. If it is removed, it's never sat down on the flat of its brim, but must be rested on its top. And... it's the reason why there can never be more than 3 cowboys sitting abreast in the fron pickup truck seat (just not enough room).
Quick, but true story... I was riding up an elevator in Oklahoma City several years ago and at the second floor stop and older gentleman got on the elevator wearing a hat (not cowboy, more of a fedora) and at the next stop, three young women got on... all nicely dressed.
The gentleman, now standing in front of me, immediately removed his hat. As we rode along, the women continued a conversation began before boarding the lift and it soon included several crass words that are unrepeatable here... in a few seconds the gentleman quietly replaced his hat on his head as if to say, "I'm definitely not in the presence of ladies"... a small slice of life's theater acted out and I was the only audience... pity...
