I only have gel nails done for very special occasions, it lasts about 5 weeks without chipping. Once taken off my nails break very easily, I try to leave them without gel polish for 2/3 months.

Mine flake and split across the bed, just scared the gel will damage them.
I had acrylics once, and they made my nails dead manky.

I do t think the gel nail ruins your nails but be careful that the manicurist doesn't file them too harshly. I went to one of those Asian places that use those grinding machines and I think they damaged the nail bed because they grow funny now but other people I know who have them done don't have any problems with their nails after. If you have weak and flaking nails anyway how much worse can they get?

i've had them, and i can't really tell the diff b/w them and acrylic. i grew my acrylics out and it's been 2 months and they're so ugly growing out :( i cant decide if it's worth the cuteness when i have them on. if you break them, you can get them fixed. they will take them off at the place. i've tried soaking them, but it doesn't work for me. the new thing is fiberglass nails. i havent had them, but my friends who have love them!!

I tried it twice and both times after I removed the gel my nails were totally damaged.

Yes it use to damage our nails some time so be careful before applying it.
