No make up should be astringent, only cleansers and toners. Avoid stuff like Witch Hazel and any of the over the counter acne brands. They strip skin like nobody's business!
Try a creamy cleanser like Olay Facials Clarify Cleansing Milk which you remove with cotton wool. Rosewater makes a fabulous toner which refreshes and smells lovely! Both of these are really easy on the pocket too! Lush does a great rose and lavender water which I can't remember the name of...sorry!
My advice is to avoid cheap make-up as it can be pretty harsh on the skin. (Although Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse is excellent). A bottle of MAC foundation or the equivalent isn't much more than a L'Oreal one and is much better quality and applies well. I find the cheaper ones cling to spots and make them look more noticeable! I get quite bad break-outs and have very sensitive skin that likes to itch and look irritated...but i find these things definitely keep it under control! (That and always, always taking my make-up off before bed!)
