Dry mouth
5 Answers
Recently I have noticed my mouth is quite dry - drier than usual anyway - and my lips are very chapped even though the weather is not that cold and I don't think I've been licking my lips alot. My mum thinks I have got conjuctivitus in at least one of my eyes if not both but I am getting it checked out at my opticians soon. Just wondering if this has any link or what is wrong with me?!

Dry mouth is usually associated with:
a) Dehydration
b) Salivary gland disease
c) Anxiety
d) Radiotherapy
e) Certain medicines
f) Certain medical conditions
Most of them have no occular symptoms other than 'sjogrens syndrome' which you can Google if you wish, though self-diagnosis over the internet cannot be recommended!

Sounds a bit like me around a cold, have you had one recently or could you be coming down with one?
Do you keep properly hydrated, as in quality hydrating drinks like water rather then caffeine drinks and such?
Looking at your salt intake and other things which could dehydrate you could also help.
I felt dehydrated a lot and after loads of tests for diabetes (with other symptoms too) finally got a good tip from an osteopath about getting a decent EPA supplement which really helped.

You should be more worried about the possibility of conjunctivitis, rather than dry lips.
Get it checked out sooner than 'soon'.

Sophie, is this anything to do with the digestive problems you mention on your other thread? My advice would be to tally it all together, and go to the doctor. The doc can prescribe for conjunctivitis so don't wait or it will get worse. It's a pressured time for you, do what you can to help yourself get through it!
