acne
my gorgeous 16 yr old daughter has acne, and is currently on long term antibiotics. they seem to be doing nothing at all (after about 2 months, maybe too early to see a result yet) but she has her school prom in less than 3 weeks and is very distressed. she has angry looking spots (just red lumps, no icky stuff) and blackheads on her face, back and chest.
she has a lovely strappy dress to wear but I know the acne is very upsetting for her, and threatens to spoil the event.
any ideas please?

I also took it for around 6 months to help with PCOS and I had a little patch of acne on my chin and I found it brilliant, unfortunately it made my blood pressure high so I had to come off of it.
There is a make up/foundation called Leichner which is quite cheap (around £4) which you can get in many chemists which is good at covering up bad spots (you don't need much and it lasts for ages).

The same thing happened to my daughter, her skin was worse just before her periods. Anti biotics didn't help, the GP referred her to a dermatologist, who put her on Retinol Cream and another type of antibiotic, every day. Eventually now, after about six months, her skin is much much better, she is now taking the anti biotics every three days instead of every day, and is going to stop completely. So fingers crossed it doesn't come back. Some people are more unlucky than others in getting rid of the acne. And her confidence was at an all time low, I felt so sorry for her. So it will not go quickly unfortunately, but take a photo of her when her skin is really bad, to show the dermatologist, and the best of luck. Hope she enjoys her prom, maybe her skin will be better that day. It does come and go. My daughter used Laura Mercieer makeup when her skin was bad, it might be worth investing in some foundation so she feels good at the prom. She was 'made up' at Laura Mercier in a department store, the coverage over the spots was fantastic, and then bought the foundation online.
I do sympathise Sara - my 20 year old son has been 'spotty' for most of his teens and now seems to be carrying it into his 20's. It seems to bother me more than him though. He has tried all the potions and lotions. I even took him to see a beauty therapist at a clinic (under protest).
What does seem to help is, when he goes out into the sun, this seems to clear them up. The sun we had a few weeks ago, done the trick and when he went ski-ing, his skin was the best it ever was.
I know some people say don't squeeze blackheads, but I don't agree - put a nice hot flannel on them and get rid. Then dab some tea tree oil on the area to close the pore.
Hope it clears for her prom.
