OH went for his usual 6 monthly colonoscopy yesterday and has to wait up to 6 weeks for his appointment to see the consultant, all that is quite normal.
Another polyp removed but this time he has to wear a blue wristband and it's not to be removed for 10 days.
I asked him about it and he's as mystified as I. (That is also normal) Nurse didn't explain much when I went to collect him.
Surely it's just to identify him to Alien invaders? or is there another reason in case of excessive bleeding?
Is there anything on it? only time I ever say patients sent home with a wristband they were either to warn a district nurse of an allergy (red band) or if the patient had been treated with a radioactive substance (yellow band) suggest you phone the hospital but ask to be put through to the endoscopy suite which was probably where the band was put on. My first thought it is a warning about giving anti coagulant drugs in an emergency as it will take the polypectomy site a while to settle down. Be interested to know what you find out
"polypectomy 24/3/11
DO NOT REMOVE UNTIL 3/4/11
then his hospital number
He's due to the nurse at the GP this morning for his blood test, which he was told he could go for by the nurse at the hospital. I'll make sure he asks her. If I don't get an answer from him, I'll do as you have suggested.
pretty sure its related to bleeding risks then... if he suddenlt started to bleed heavily from his bum they'd know the likely cause and where to look for the problem..they wouldn't waste time looking for burst ulcers, haemerrhoids etc
