I have never been one to lie-in, even in my younger days. as soon as I wake up I get out of bed, usually by 07.30 but prefer before 07.00. I find that if I stay in bed any longer it makes feel tired and lazy for the rest of the day. I never set an alarm clock as I don't start work until 14.00hrs and I rarely go to bed before midnight.
I also see it as a waste of time when I could be up and out and doing something interesting.
I work with a lot of youngsters, mostly between 20 and 35 and you can tell the ones that have spent the whole morning in bed as they usually come to work looking tired and worn out, the ones that get up earlier are usually bright and refreshed. Its not because they have been out late or gone to bed late, they have spent a long time in bed, whats it all about?
I find that too, ratter - I can't lie in, even if I have to take a nap later in the day to catch up. I think you can sleep too much, it makes you very bleary and un-inspired.
IDK, but you only need 8 hours sleep, this is because for every hour of sleep you get, it can keep you awake for 2 hours . . . i saw a programme about this ages ago but I can't remember what it was saying . . .
And as you can clearly see from my weekend posts, i'm usually up before 9 even at the weekend/ in the holidays, once i'm awake I lay awake for five minutes tops .
Molly, that may be correct but I remember watching an item on the television many years ago where they said that Margaret Thatcher (during her reign) only slept for 2 hours a night and started work in her office again, I wonder if it was true.
I thought it was 4 hours ratter, for Mrs T. There is no way I can normally sleep for 8 hours, bed around 12.30, up around 6, is my norm - then off to work by 8.
I need at least 7 hours otherwise I feel tired the rest of the day. I usually wake up feeling tired even after 7 hours so not sure if it is related to any health problem though as I've never got it checked out.

I often find that my eyes are really tired around 13.00hrs and will often have a catnap for 10-15 mins, rarely any longer, this is only if Ive been on PC a lot or been travelling.
I can catnap anywhere any time - I think that's what keeps me going. I am sure I need the sleep (I slept for an hour, yesterday lunchtime) but I just can't do it when everyone else is supine!
I can sleep during the day as well. If I have decaff coffee in the morning I can sleep anything up to 2 hours around lunch time. If I have caffeinated then its probably about 30 mins.
6 hours seems to be the norm for me-maybe 7 when I don't have work. Any more and I feel drugged. I'm not a morning person-so even on days off,I set my alarm so I'm up by 8.30,having set the alarm for 8.. Later and it affects how I feel.
I need 8 hours I think... I'm very slow in the monrings (obviously have to get up for work) and I don't go to bed particularly late unless I'm have an insomnia bout or I've got things on my mind. Oddly, I wake up naturally at the same time as a weekday on a saturday and a sunday (normally, not today tho!) and do not find myself as tired/hard to start as I do during the week. I think there's definiately part of my nature that very much resents being woken up by an alarm!
I am rarely in bed before 3am, I then get up at 6.45 am to get my oh's shirt ironed and butties made... and get my son ready for school on school days. I then go back to bed for about 3 hours once my son is at school.
My insomnia is caused by my medical problems though, being unable to breathe properly tends to wake you up, then you get frightened of falling asleep in case it happens again.
