dont you find the more you know you shouldnt be having something, the more you want/crave it?! lol
ive also read too, the more carbs you have the more your body wants.
maybe dont try and cut back on them tooooo much, else you will rebel! ... just keep an eye on what youre having, and see where you can 'tweak' things a bit.
keeping a food diary is a very good idea, its amazing how you 'forget' the couple of biscuits you have here and a few sweets you have there.
good for you for doing the gymming by the way, especially as youre so busy with your work and stuff. and you never know, it could be youve lost fat, but at the same time youve gained muscle, hence the increase on the scales.
its tough isnt it?...i know!
anyway, let us know how you get on wont you :o)

Trying to spot reduce rarely if ever works. Your body stores fat reserves where it chooses to. Exercise a certain area and it'll most likely grow as the muscle grows, but the fat remain.
As you get older you have to make a choice on whether to accept a bit of padding in some places, or alternatively go for the skinny limbs look, and see a slightly drawn face in the mirror.
That said, to reduce size, your best bet is to reduce intake. Burning off more energy has an effect, but IMO not such a significant one.

No, just trying to get some regulars into Weight-loss & Dieting. Although I do take your point about this being "fitness" over dieting.
Do you do big weights or little ones? You'll lose weight quicker with a few to-exhaustion reps rather than 100 easily done reps... Also it saves time!
Also it does seem like you've got a lot of carbs in your diet - try spinach salads with tomatoes and mozzarella.

Having read the rest of the thread (well skimmed anyway) it looks to me that your diet doesn't appear too high in energy. Just wonder if your metabolism and switched to survival mode and is holding on to what it can. Try at least having one decent meal a day at whatever time you find most convenient. And yes, keeping a diary of what one eats, and the Calories that portion size gave you, can help dispel any illusions a dieter may have.
