free prescriptions during pregnancy

my daughter is pregnant and said she cant get free prescriptions until her pregnancy has been certified but she said they wont do it until she is 20 weeks, is this a nationwide thing or just her docs? thanks

20 weeks? No, that can't be right!! Perhaps she misunderstood. Tell her to go back to the doctor and ask again.

All prescriptions are free here in Scotland. However, think she should get free prescriptions right from the beginning of pregnancy. As suggested maybe she should ask her doctor again or check out the local chemist.

She needs to ask again. If she doesn't want to go to the doctor, tell her to pop into Boots and speak to the pharmacist.

Perhaps she has mistaken the GP saying she can't have her matb1 for till she is 20 weeks?

She should apply for a maternity exemption certificate using an application form FW8, available from your midwife, GP or health visitor.

corbyloon i know that but she says the doctor wont certify until 20 weeks, hence the question is it nationwide or just her doc?

If it were a national instruction, it would be on the NHS websites. Either it is ONLY the doctor who is saying this in which case the midwife or health visitor can sign the form or (more likely)there has been a misunderstanding.

when i was pg, the midwife filled the form in at my booking appointment (9 weeks) and i got it about 4 weeks later

from my experience the mw deals with all these things now. GP doesn't even look at you during pregnancy
