Optician needs Glasses?

I got my eyes tested some years ago at a very well known high street optician that has an advert on tv and the but of a lot of jokes,all was well but needed glasses.Got tested again,same place on my normal check up time and my perscription had changed,fitted a normal lens to my weak eye as nothing can be done to correct it but i wont go blind.Next time i went he put me back to the original perscription and this keeps happening on a regular cycle.Couple of years ago he also diagnosed Night Myopia(his words but check spelling),before that i had to watch out for strong flashes of light and get to a hospital quick if it happend and recently he has told me i was born premature which i dont think i was and as a result i have retinopathy and will go blind! what can i do about this? is he in need of a trip to Specsavers?

Henry - I can only speak from my own experience, that going to an independent optician has been a far more satisfactory experience than going to a branch of a chain. Normal lens in your weak eye? That doesn't sound right - my eyes are different strength and I have different prescriptions for each lens. I'd get a second opinion if I were you - go somewhere else and have another checkup.

Go to your GP, explain this diagnosis and ask to be refered to an ophthalmologist for some proper advice.

agree with boxtops always been tos mall independent. Now have varifocals, different prescription each eye. Never had a problem, never tried to sell me new frames always assumes will be reusing the ones I have. It's me that wants to change as fed up after 2 years of wearing same ones every day. Years ago husband went to High St chain, told him he needed glasses and very pushy on the frames. He wasn't happy, so cancelled under pretext of wanting second opinion on frames suiting him, and went to my optician. He told him very borderline and would probably need them in future but would not reccomend at that time. Now tells him to get reading glasses from pound shop as that is all he needs.

I take it from your mention of a normal lens on your weaker eye you have a varifoxal in the other. Has this been dine as your weaker eye won't benefit from the reading part as its ability to see is too poor and your optician thinks it may be a waste of money for yourself putting a varifocal lens in it.
Is this eye or even your good eye actually very short sighted and the reason why it may a risk factor for retina tears or detachment.
Night myopia is a loose term meaning that you appear to go slightly more short sighted at night and this is more typically noticed at dusk. This slight shift in prescription may mean problems judging distances or light glare problems. Some people benefit from this slight overcorrection of myopia for this problem.

We must use the same optician ubasses. Same story for me right down to the cheap reading glasses.

If your ideal prescription changes you can opt to stick with te old prescriptin anyway. If my eyes change only slightly I may well not bother to make a change.

If anyone gets flahses of light they ought to get it check out. Especially if there is an increase in floaters afterwards. Aside from that I'd not worry myself over such things.
