Bit better now (more keep going) as I've lost quite a lot recently through being ill though I was never really huge - I did need to lose some but the comments been a longrunning general thing. I did (wo)man up and tell her I found it hurtful (especially after having an eating disorder) but not much of a change.
One which really hurt was saying I should go on a diet for my brother's wedding and pointing out I'd be photographed.
She's not a mean person though - she just came up and looked after me so well after an operation, just my weight is something she always seems to have had a thing about.

I was a really fussy eater as a child and always last to finish. My Dad used to sit next to me with a wooden spoon, and when I answered 'no' to his question of 'have you finished yet' he'd wallop me with it until I'd finished. I guess that is why I can never leave food on my plate now. Or CD's plate much to her annoyance!
My mother was fine, and helped me lose some weight, but I was quite well built and strong in the old days, not really fat - my friend's mother was awful to my friend, and left her with a real complex about her weight, she wasn't fat, just well built, but her mother was like a beanpole, and couldn't see that my friend was similar to her father, who was tall and well built.
Andy Hughes I know what you mean...constant comments, criticism and lack of any sort of affection
Now despite years of dieting and yoyoing between sizes (been a 10 now up to 24) everytime I've stopped I've put on more than I lost
My Medication makes me ravenous and affects insulin resistance apparently so fat is deposited more easily
I am really active with lots of hobbies I don't drive walk loads each week
might consider a gastric band if my GP is ok as now have a high enough BMI

rowanwitch - as a dad with three daughters, I know just how sensitive the issue of weight is for women, especially in their teens, or after a baby.
My youngest duaghter is hyper-sensitive about her weight gain after her baby, so i do all i can to affirm her beauty, and I comment on her current losses - which she is achieving.
Seeing her face light up makes me wonder how any parent can not want to affirm their children as wonderful people.

My mother told me at 18 that I ought to lose some weight. I was probably a size 12 (at 5'10") I ended up a skinny size 10. I was a skinny child though. No parent should have a go at a child/teenager about weight.
Rowan, The worse thing I ever did was go on a strict faddy diet when I went up to a size 16 in my late 30's (I was 5'10") Had problems with my weight since. Once you start dieting on a strict basis your metabolism goes bananas. I did go back down to a 12/14 but immediately I ate properly I shot up to a size 18/20.
I am now a size 16/18 and have come to the conclusion that this is where I will stay and am happy with it.
