So you've just had a meal and then within the hour you need to do a number two; surely it didn't take just an hour for your entire meal to digest, did it? But is this more than a coincidence?

Is it like cars going into a tunnel. To get more in you have to get some out!!
Most likely coincidence since not everyone needs to output in less than an hour after input. But as mentioned, if you stuff something into a full tube, stuff near the other end is likely to move out that end.
There is something called the gastrocolic reflex...when you fill up your tum, your other end reflexly expels some.

I have to take issue with Wikipedia (not for the first time ), as although I agree totally with ladyalex about the gastrocolic reflex, it only comes to play with any degree of importance in the baby. As one grows older, the reflex tends to diminish and disappear in the normal subject

How often does an adult feel the need to defaecate after a meal?.....not often I would guess

There are certain medical conditions as well as post operative conditions ŵhere the reflex once again takes prominence.
I thought it was just babies too, sqad, but I didn't like to disagree with Wikipedia !
