I have had this problem for over a month now, I did it putting my dad's wheelchair into the boot of my car, the doctor gave me naproxen 500mg but it made my stomach sore, so told to stop, the pain is getting worse, I am walking as much as I can and having massage, any ideas how to get rid of this terrible pain as it is going right down my leg!

He took pain killers and anti-inflammatory pills regularly each day and took a lightweight walking stick/seat combined when out, tried to keep walking every day, even just round the garden. He cut down on some pills as GP mentioned could become addictive. It cleared up after 6 weeks (as the Dr had predicted) - just before his first nhs physio referral appointment. He is now back to normal. Dont want it to happen again.

Thanks everyone for your help. I have had anti inflam and painkiller naproxem but was making me have sore stomach so had to stop taking. I am having massage every week and if it not gone in a couple of weeks I go back to GP. My friend said she had epidural injection got instant relief then it came back but 3rd time injection did the trick.
