Anti-inflammatory tablets for dogs

Can anyone point me at a cheap (or at least cheaper than the vet!) supplier of this medication?

Looks like our elderly greyhound may be on them for a while & buying from the vet will bankrupt us!!

What is the name of the meds? If they are a POM (prescription only medication) you will still need to have a veterinary prescription - you could pay £5-8 for this. Then you need to work out whether online prices are cheaper when you factor this in. They usually are! I use Animed for my cat's kidney tablets.
If you do not need a script they will definately be cheaper online.

We get Rimadryl anti-inflamatory tablets for our labrador on-line from - [email protected] - these cost less that the vets. The only thing is that you have to order in advance as they take some time in coming (up to 10 days) as they come from Singapore and we did not have to show a prescription

I would be very wary of buying tablets from somewhere like Singapore that do not want a prescription, but I wouldnt want to give a dog something like Rimadyl long term anyway.

Have you tried any of the natural remedies, like Yumove?

There was an interesting program on buying POM meds from abroad online last year. They focussed on viagra. The tablets that they bought were all fakes made from wall plaster, paint, other meds and so on. One IIRC had traces of rat dropping in it. There is NO WAY I would buy meds from foreign websites.
There are other meds that can be used long term, as Jules said, Rimadyl isnt a good idea for long term use.

If you go down the route of asking your Vet for a script, make sure that you get one with (at least) 6 months worth of 'repeats' on it. They shouldn't charge any extra for this.

Then you can lodge the script with your UK internet pharmacy of choice and order/pay for the drugs at convenient times.

Thanks woof - it is Rimadyl, so I'll bear in mind the long term use aspect (though she is over 13 - not sure how long term she's goings to be!)

They normally deliver with in 2-3 days. Also [and some may frown on this] if you have left over meds [and I hope you don't] they can normally be donated to a local rescue.

my vets will refund on sealed unused meds and will pass opened meds onto local rescues so that owners don't have to hunt around at what is usually a sad time.

I had to take my old boy off Rimadyl as it was causing him to pass blood. Try Glucosamin and Chondroitin tablets, and you can get them from Holland and Barrett cheaper than most pet sites.

or cheaper still go to an equine supplier, we get a few products this way, much cheaper and in larger quantities.

Do you mind if I jump in and ask the experts - my cat has recently been put on 3 meds for the rest of her life (I believe). How does one ask a vet for a prescription only (or if not needed then say I'll buy online) - do they take umbrage?

They have to give a prescription if asked, and most will accept that you can get stuff cheaper online. Mine will try to match the price if he can or will recommend a cheaper alternative if there is one.
