Dad had a stent in his bile duuct gland pre his chemo..he had to go back in hossie last night as his temp was high and rising...they think his stent has something to do with it...are these things degradable as they are talking of replacing but not removing ??..at what point does temp become an issue ? He was reading 39 then rose to 42 a few hours later..I take his temp every 3/4 hours..then was advi to take him in...feel bit helpless..wish I had been trained as a nurse...

if he is nuetrapaenic (has low white blood cells from the chemo) a temp over 37.5 needs watching carefully, and over 38 needs a lot of worrying about

thanks bed....this whole thing has reeled and rocked me I must admit...have madyself a bit unpopular as I banned my brother visiting with his kids with a cold....but I really can't take any risk of infection...
I would really fancy you in a nurses uniform.....;-)

I presume that he has a stent in his common bile duct and is having treatment for gall bladder malignancy..............I'm just guessing.

No stents do not dissolve, but can move out of place, thus causing the obstruction to the bile duct to return and that sounds what has happened........ascending cholangits causing the high temperature due to infection.

He may well need another cholangiogram to identify the position of the stent.

Keep me informed......interesting.
murray....off to the club now....be back in 2 hours.

Sqad..just a mo have to adjust that stocking..lol....dad actually had his gall bladder removed a few years ago..at the time they thought they had lost a stone which really is how his cancer came to light as the consultant..Mr Patterson- Brown (know him ? )ordered some kind of procedure when a camera went down his tubes ..bit more than endoscopy but can't remember the terminology..then they found the tumour. He is doing really well though no hair loss or anything yet but very tired.as we all are..gawd that hospuital canteen..the Western General in Edinburgh......can't perform surgery but could cook a bit better...
ERPC.....endoscopic retrograde pancreo cholangiogram.

No, but I knew of his grandfather who had an anaemia named after him.
