High Cholesterol And Statins
6 Answers
Hi. i am 66 and have been told that my cholesterol is very high(don't ask me the number 'cause I have forgotten!) The nurse suggested I take Statins so of course i have done a search and read a bit about it. What I would like to know is does one feel better once ones Cholesterol is normal because I feel grand as i am now. I go to the gym regularly and eat sensibly I don't drink alcohol but smoke 10 roll ups per day.

Isn't having high cholesterol a 'silent' thing though, like high blood pressure, in that you dont have any symptoms and it's only a blood test which shows whether or not you have it? Therefore it makes no difference if you feel grand or not, and taking statins won't make you feel better or worse but will just quietly lower your cholesterol. I appreciate that...

grandy.......that says it all.
If there is no heart disease or stroke in the family I would not be inclined to take statins even with your "high cholesterol."
I can see arguments for taking statins.
This is your call.

I appreciate that SOME people get muscle aches on SOME statins, but that's different to 'feeling better' or 'feeling worse' by lowering your cholesterol.

Hi, I too get very bad muscle pains in my calf since I have been on these things. As others have said taking them won't make you feel different as it is something you wouldn't know you had without having a blood test first. My cholesterol was 11.9 before taking a statin but now it's down to around 6.5 so a lot better. Heart trouble seems to run in the family so doctor didn't put me on diet just said to eat well.
