A relative of mine had a knee replacement last week and instead of being knocked out completely she had an epidural, so stayed awake throughout. She said she heard them using a saw and a hammer during the operation. Would you prefer this or would you rather be "out for the count?"
The last time I was "out for the count" I had problems with the anaesthesia I'd prefer the epidural - could always tune into an mp3 player to avoid the sawing etc
I have a problem with anesthetic.....I take ages to come round so I would opt for that every time. I find it difficult to switch off so the times I have been "out for the count" have been lovely. And I wouldn't like the noise at all.
I'd rather be knocked out any day of the week, especially just after when you feel like you're wrapped in cotton wool.
My nan had a hip replaced about 8 years ago with an epidural, she heard everything, I'm surprised the poor woman didn't have a heart attack, she was quite shocked after.
The morphine is to cope with the pain after the op headwreck. This time she was given it in the form of a blackcurrant drink. They said she could have it every two hours.
