Omega 3 Fish Oils
25 Answers
I thought I might try using Omega 3 fish oil capsuals. Yesterday in Costco they had Wild Alaskan Salmon Omega 3 fish oils. I think they are cold pressed oils. I didn`t buy them but am wondering now if I should have. Do you think they are any better than just the regular oils from Holland and Barrett?

No, I don't.
Further, from the NHS website:
"Despite claims that fish oil supplements can help prevent numerous conditions including cancer, dementia, arthritis and heart problems, there is little hard evidence for them. Although they are “natural” products (albeit in a processed form), this does not mean they are safe or suitable for everyone.
While omega-3 supplements are sometimes advised for people who have had a heart attack this supplement is typically used under supervision of a healthcare professional.
If you are thinking of taking omega-3 supplements, talk to your GP or the healthcare professional in charge of your care first."

The main beneficial content of fish oils are the fatty acids EPA and DHA. These are present however the oil is extracted from the fish. "Cold pressing" is a method of extracting oil from olives and anyone claiming their fish oil is cold pressed is likely to be charging a premium price for bog standard oil. The problem with fish oils is that they can contain traces of mercury, but there's no guarantee that the expensive ones contain any less mercury than the cheap ones. Have a look at the prices here http:// www.sim plysupp lements .net/ca tegory/ 57/fish -oils/
Yes, I was on a Omega 3 supplement trial last year. It was testing my physical and mental skills. I of course was not told if I was on the supplement or not, but I had a side effect of feeling completely calm and never anxious about anything. Such a good feeling that after the trial came to an end, and they confirmed I was on the Omega 3, I bought myself capsules and take them religiously every day. I just go for high strength but no particular make.
