Enlarged Prostate

As an up date, PSA blood test was normal. So perhaps an appointment to see what the options are. Actually I don't think it troubles my husband too much, we manage. So perhaps best leave well alone and just keep a watch that things don't get worse. What do you think?

Maybe your husband tells you it doesn't trouble him too much, reality may be quite different.
Won't harm just to pop along to the GP for 5 minutes, just for peace of mind.

Thanks for your response ChillDought. Hard to explain it all but hubby had a stroke 2 years ago and there's a lot that doesn't seem to worry him any longer. I have to help when he passes urine that how I became concerned. Not sure how much to go further when he has already gone through so much.

He may need what is called a TURP in order to urinate more freely, 15-20 minute op and usually under spinal anaesthetic.
Won't harm to ask to be referred to the nearest Urology clinic.

I agree with Chili re. the chat.

If it were me and the GP had felt an enlarged prostate and even if the PSA was normal.............my discussion with the GP would be centred around an MRI scan of the prostate and possibly a biopsy.

Just my thoughts.

If you gave a blood sample for a PSA test, and a urine sample, and heard nothing from the GP, is it safe to assume that there's nothing untoward going on down there?

I am in total agreement with Sqad and Chilldoubt. I was found to have cancer of the prostate 4 years ago after two negative biopsies in earlier years. The biopsy in 2010 proved positive. I have had surgery and radiotherapy and have read just about everything going on Prostate troubles. If you need any more questions answering just post them on here. Wishing you well.

We are going to see our GP next Monday will let you know what is suggested. I have a feeling my husband will refuse any further tests because of his existing disability due to his stroke. Moving around is difficult for him. Still we will see. Thanks for the messages.

I have a PSA of about 2.4 but still have water works problems. I saw the urologist recently And he told me my prostate was enlarged but completely benign.

The GP explained that an enlarged prostrate can expand outwards or inwards, if the latter, then the urinary tract is restricted, hence the flow change.

The his decision, if that is the case, should be respected.

I have changed my opinion from 25/6/2014 above and would settle for a repeat PSA in 6 months time.

At least if you can find out, he can make an informed decision. If he then decides not to have treatment, he will know the risks.

Further update. Visited doctor on Monday husband now taking Tamsulosin Hydrochloide to relax the prostate muscles. He did not suggest any further tests and will evaluate in 3 months when an additional medication may be prescribed. PSA level was "very low".

eeee one gets an issue and the suggestion is a biopsy. No wonder men avoid seeing the GP. I think I'll not bothering booking just yet then.
