What is the best thing to do with unused and no longer needed pills?

Return them to a Chemist/Pharmacy.

As a matter of interest - if complete boxes of tablets are retuirned to the chemist - are they forbidden to dispense it to a another customer ?

Thai is probably why you never see a depressed fish.......unless it is on a fishmonger's slab...then it looks a bit cheesed off.

Baldric......yes you are right and we were wrong in suggesting that they should be "flushed away."

I take medicines back to the pharmacy but surely those we've swallowed pass through our systems and end up flushed anyway?
