Whats your experience of hospital food been like?
Just got back from visiting my old mum in hospital and have had to take her some 'snacks' as she finds the food unpalatable.
Personally, Ive had no complaints about hospital food when Ive been there. My last taste of hospital food was 2 yrs ago in a psych ward and the food was exceptional. A good choice to choose from and a full English breakfast at the weekend. Obviously my mums in a different hospital (and expected to there for the next 2 weeks) but just isnt eating the 'muck' (as she refers to it).
Are some people just to fussy and set in their ways about what to eat (especialy the elderly) or IS some hospital food just muck?
Thanks.

There was a series where James Martin went into Scarborough hospital and turned the food around. A lot of the problems were with the waiting times. The food was fine when it left the kitchens, but by the time it reached the patients....!!!!
We are moving to the catchement at Scarborough Yaaaaeee! :o)

Dreadful. When I was in the food was served hot from a heated trolley tasted nice, but we all went down with food poisoning! Last time I was in I lost half a stone after 5 days (couldn't eat it).
When daughter had her children, we took takeaways for her. When daughter in law had her first, she came home after 6 hours and called at the 'chippy' on the way home!!!

At my local hospital you get given what the previous occupant of your bed ordered before discharge. After 24 hours you get to choose. Not much of an improvement. If you are fasting before an operation and the operation is cancelled after being postponed for a few hours there is no way of being fed before the next scheduled meal.

does seem to be a bit of a lottery then whether you get 'eatable' food or rubbish?
Apart from what i said in my original post (re: psych ward food) my previous experiences of hospital food has been ok, no complaints. Must have been lucky so far. My poor mum cant stomach anything at the mo that shes given.
