My daughter had stimulator (blocker ) put in several months ago and now was recently had spinal bone surgery. The doctor said the stimulator would not be used now. She will be walking around with that contraption in her back. Is there anyone else out there who that has happened to. Any comments will be appreciated. I am in the dark on this one. Scares me. The stimulator is something that was to help with pain. It appears it was unnecessarily installed.

No expert but I'd assume she needed one at the time but the belief is that it isn't needed any longer. I understand that the process should be reversable. In your shoes I'd as the doctors for clarification and future intent.

You daughter had intractable back pain due to a bony degenerative condition of her spinal cord e.g spondylolisthesis and now has had a spinal operation such as a spinal fusion.
Is that the scenario or have i got it wrong?

Yes squad that's correct. She is still healing from the surgery

Right, I would presume that your doctor feels that spinal fusion will relieve your daughter of pain removing the necessity for the stimulator.
Keeping it in situ seems a good idea, if the operation fails to relieve her pain then it can be "switched on" rather than re-implantation.

Additionally, even with modern knowledge and expertise, the surgeon may wish to interfere with spinal nerves as little as possible. If the implant is not causing problems then it maybe that the safest option for your daughter is to leave it in situ.
