Hi. Eleven days ago I had a colonoscopy (very painful) doctor told me I had two polyps one of which a sample was sent off for biopsy. So far I have heard nothing about the results and I'm wondering about how long it takes for the reports to come through; It's driving me up the wall what the findings may be. I would rather know sooner than later.Sorry for rambling.S.O.G

One of the commonest complaints on AB is the time it takes results of investigations to be given to the patient.
This situation is unacceptable.
However, in your case, I would have thought a result should be available by 2 weeks after the biopsy has been taken.

I agree with Sqad..most results here seem to take 2 weeks...try not to stress..hope you get sorted soon..take care x

Not had anything that invasive for ages; but my experience of the NHS is that they can't be bothered to tell you anything unless you chase them. Unsure if an issue is found whether that attitude changes.

ozzy, I was once told (by an ozzy doctor) that the NHS sent X-rays to Australia to be developed and analysed. I don't know if this is still true; it was some years ago. It would explain delays.

I think most X-rays are digital now JNO, just like modern cameras, so don't need developing. Last time I had an X-ray (10 years ago) it was with the consultant in the time it took me to walk from the X-ray room to the consultant's room.

results update. Hi All. I finally contacted my local clinic about results of the polyps biopsy and voila! they had had a letter from the hospital to say that arrangements were being made to have the polyps removed plus a ct scan for which I received a letter for such to be done today (13th) the scan I mean, no other explanation. What bothers me is what is this scan for? Sorry to bother you all so late but I just thought I'd keep you up to date. S.O.G.

Could the scan be to check that there are no more polyps ?

Its easy to say try not to worry, but it would be good to try getting your head down. You might not sleep well, but a few hours will help tomorrow if you're going to the hospital. Thinking of you.

Hello All. I have finally received a reply from the consultant on my case saying that the biopsy results for cancer were inconclusive whatever that means and that an appointment has been made for me to see him in a weeks time to discuss what happens next.I recently had another ct scan of upper body lungs and liver etc and that came back clear which is something I suppose.I have just had my 79th birthday so I guess I should expect some bits of me to be breaking down but not for awhile yet. I hope your next appointment sorts it all out finally, you've certainly had a hard time with uncertainty.

Actually "inconclusive" sounds promising in a way in that nothing wrong has been identified. And sometimes it reflects a hiccup in the test/examination - I had such a response to a bowel test a couple of years ago and the repeat test found all clear (and I'm 73, so approaching your age).

In my experience, with my mum's and dad's illnesses in recent years, the NHS aims to achieve targets by doing only what have they to do, and not just get on with it.
My dad phoned up to ask when an operation was going to take place as he'd been waiting for ages and has a chronic heart condition. The answer was that they were still within the target date, so just carry on waiting until the time is up, and we'll get around to letting you know what's going on.
I think most doctors who work in NHS are fantastic, but the system is dreadful.

Hello All.Saw the consultant today and in his opinion the polyps could be cancerous even the though biopsy didn't fully confirm that. He said because of said the position of the nasties they could be difficult to remove and he suggested two options .The colonoscopy removal if possible or surgery to remove the part of the colon that is infected

Hello All. After much deliberation have decide to go for removal of the infected part of the colon and hopefully rejoin the good bits, surgery scheduled for thursday March 3rd. If all goes well I'll talk to you all sometime next week.If not?????. S.O.G.
