as when he went in hospital just over a week ago.
I know he has dementia, BUT a lot of the time he is reasonable with his mental faculties.
On the night of Tuesday/Wednesday, he awoke gasping for breath, on ringing the nurse, who arrived a little while later, it was found that his oxygen has been turned off at the wall. As he was in there without his leg, and in a poorly condition, I have no doubt that he could get over to it to turn it off himself.
Is it possible that the lack of oxygen for a period has robbed him of some of his reason?

I would point this post out to squad when he is around, hopefully the lack of oxygen would not have done any damage.

hi ferlew, sorry to hear this - a temporary lack of oxygen to the brain like this can cause some extra confusion, but it would normally resolve when the o2 levels rose again. Sometimes a physical decline can herald a mental decline. Being in unfamiliar surroundings cn also contribute

Ok, thank you...I will just hope he improves now he is back in his own surroundings, however I will be following this up to hopefully find out who was responsible, and also mentioning the fact his take home meds were not actually his, despite having the discharge notes with his name visible through the clear bag.

Hi ferlew, my mother in law is in hospital at the moment, and sadly the same sort of thing is happening to her - she is losing her mentl faculties daily and in all honesty, i can't see her regaining them. Before she went in she was living in a wrden controlled flat, but she is sadly being discharged to a nursing home because her mental health has declined along with her physical health

Very sad bednobs, the fact is, we are just living too damned long as a species I suppose.
As I type, have just had a perfectly ok conversation with him, yet 2 hours ago he was like a child, needy and helpless.
Ah well, on we go.
