Mental Health Service. I Am Confused
24 Answers
Hello I was writing a post there about suicide 2 weeks ago and I got a lot of helpful information Thank you for it. I was in my GP due to self harm and feel suicide. GP asked me about some questions and sent a letter to mental health team. Today I've got a phone call from this service and the woman asked for questions and I answered but she also told me If I can promise to keep myself safe or she will send some people to my address so I was scared because it wasn't sound really well so I promised but what was it? Was she speaking about mental hospital? Or what exactly does it means:"I will send some people now to your address"? Thank you I told the truth but suddenly I am scared what should I say them. Thank you Robert.

As others have said the Mental Health team have reacted positively (so don't be afraid). They will want to come to assess you as soon as possible, but only for your own safety. Take the old image of a Mental Hospital out of your head; if they feel they have to take you somewhere to look after you it will probably just be to a 'normal' hospital where they can monitor and protect you.
Don't be afraid to speak out and tell it as it is, they've seen it all before and WILL help you.
Good luck.

Yes...I used to work in a psychiatric hospital. If you're a voluntary patient and not forensic it's pretty laid back. They stick to routines. They will assess your needs and write up a programme just for you. They may decide that one on one sessions may benefit you or they might decide that behavioural therapy might be more beneficial.
There are so many different types of treatment that it's really hard to say but....you'll be treated well.

Robert, my previous answer still applies but I'm sorry I got you mixed up with another poster from about a week back.
Take the thoughts of a Mental Hospital out of your head; it is more likely to be a secure ward in a typical hospital.
I think you are in the UK so my thoughts are, talk to your GP and ask/insist that you are referred to CAMHS.

They specialise in mental health issues for under 18s and are brilliant. (Our daughter was referred to them 3 years ago with similar behaviour to yourself and they did a wonderful job.
Don't suffer in silence; talk and somebody will listen and help.

Oh Thank you. Can you say me more about it? I am really scared...I had an accident I drunk strong alcohol and took some pills and I was drunk and I said I want to die to paramedics and I was in a accident emergency so my GP got a letter about this accident and I got a letter as well. And in this letter was that they recommend inpatient service and it looks like a depress and very strong anxiety. And I had panic attack. I am really scared.
Don't be scared. You'll be looked after by people trained to do so. The whole time I worked in mental health I only ever met people who truly cared and truly understood.
All of us are at risk with suffering with mental health issues. Follow what they say and let them treat you. If you're being offered place then you're lucky x

I agree with everything ummmm's just said Robert.
Don't be scared but please go back to your GP and mention CAMHS; they will know all about it and what the best procedure is. Medicines will be prescribed to help you but the behaviourist specialists at CAMHS will help with one-to-one meetings to talk you through the best way forward.

Thank you I think I don't need to go back to GP because GP got a letter and he sent me to the team and I had a phone call today and I am having an appointment for 2 week. But I am quite scared because according this letter I am not suppose to keep safe but I promised that I'll be. And The worst thing is in letter is:"I recommend inpatient treatment. And I don't want to. :( I would like to go to the doctor but just like outpatient.H Ave I any choice? Or will they decide without me ?
Well you don't HAVE to do anything you don't want, but, these people are specialists and can and will help but you have to want to get better - which I'm sure you do because you've got a life to live and enjoy.
You must, I feel, pluck up the courage to tell your parents where you are at and what you want to do; get them on your side because you will need them for support.

What should I do if I'll be there and I will decide that I want to leave ? And also my friend told me it is like prison people who are self harm are hands tied to bed. And all day have to stay in bed or do some work like a prisoners and also get lots of pills and this pills makepeople crazy.
