My OH has a hernia close to one testicle and is waiting to see a doctor at our local hospital. What does the surgery involve and how long is the recovery time for a fit 79 year old???

can't answer your question but hope he will be well soon xx
No big deal......all means is that a part of the bowel has entered the scrotal sac and can be dealt with by any competent surgeon.
Recovery depends upon how the surgery is performed...keyhole or open surgery and also what type of work that you do.

As a rule, you can walk about (with a bit of discomfort) within 3 days, drive a car within two weeks and back to work ( depending upon you work) anytime between 2 weeks and six weeks.

This is a generalisation and depends upon many factors.

Thank you for your good wishes Mallyh, and thank you too Sqad - fortunately my OH is retired so he can recover at his leisure. Is it usually an overnight stay in hospital?
Overnight stay?....Yes, providing he has a laparoscopic repair (keyhole) and that it is straight forward with no complications.
